All of 29 years and Manish Hathiramani is one of the youngest and most visible commentators on Indian business television. He is a Proprietary Trader and Technical Analyst at Deen Dayal Investments, a trading and investment services firm. Starting early in his teens, Manish often baffled his immediate family with his interest and understanding of esoteric topics like "equity derivatives" and "index futures".
The opening up of the Indian economy in the early 90s with revolutionary policies and reforms previously unheard of in the Indian context, ushered in an era of change, that had a direct impact on the foreign institutions, investors and fund houses. It also saw the emergence of a cult of equity traders and investors in India. All these unfolding events gradually reassured this impressionable teenage mind that being an ‘equity analyst’ and owning a proprietary firm was the way to go!
With a degree in International Business from the prestigious Bond University, Australia, in 2004, Manish went on to be elected as a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society (FRSS), UK the same year. He spent the next 12 months intensely studying ‘technical analysis’, a tool for equity trading where future price movements are forecasted by studying historical price patterns. This, in conjunction with various indicators and theorems like the Elliot Waves and Fibonacci, help gauge the trend of the markets – thus deciding on the direction of placement of the trades. Subsequently, Manish dabbled with exports and currency trading and trained extensively on security features of circa 18 international currencies.
Thus armed with an arsenal of knowledge and an intuitive disposition towards equity and commodity markets, Manish started Deen Dayal Investments in 2008. Since then it has been quite a roll.
A prolific public speaker, he has featured regularly on Bloomberg UTV, CNBC TV18 and other business channels keen on his insight into the futures markets. Currently, Manish appears regularly on India’s leading business channels namely ET NOW and NDTV Profit where he is interviewed twice a week. Apart from his television appearances, he has an online column in India’s largest selling business publication The Economic Times with his views and comments on the future prospects of the Indian stock markets, every weekend.
The past few years have seen Manish transforming into an authority with scientific analysis of the markets and trends – thereby prompting a positive outlook to investment management of high net worth individuals and organisations.
In 2011, Manish was a part of the four member team that represented India at a Rotary Exchange Program in the United States, where he shared his views with financial institutions and decision makers that included integral team members of the treasury department with direct reports to the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Ben S Bernanke.
Apart from his penchant for the equity markets, Manish also pursues financial consulting beyond the shores of India which has taken him to internationally acclaimed bodies like the World Trade Organisation headquarters in Geneva. He has attended national level conferences in New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai and attended international meets as a speaker in The Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and most recently Hong Kong. Later this year, he would be speaking at several conferences; Singapore in September, San Francisco in October and London in November. Apart from that, he would be attending the international summit on technical analysis which will be held in Bangkok in August.
